Eat

There are a variety of places to eat off the base.  Most restaurants feature traditional Azorean and Portuguese dishes, although you can find some Italian and even a Chinese restaurant around the island.  I am posting here detailed information and pictures on many of the places to eat.  Obviously I have not tried everything, or I may just not have posted the information yet, so if there is something missing please comment below.

For every place I list here I will try to provide as much information as possible, including the hours of operation and days the place will be open.  When available, I will also post a map and contact information.  My hope is that this searchable site makes it as easy as possible for you to have a good time and experience the Azorean culture.

By typing the word EAT into the search bar to the right, you will be able to see a list of all the food establishments I have made posts about.  If you are looking for something more specific, it should be just as easy to search, especially if you type in a location or cuisine.

I hope you enjoy this site and please feel free to comment.  If you have eaten at a place featured on here, please don’t hesitate to comment under the post with your own thoughts and experience.  I can say that some things are hit and miss, and just because we have enjoyed something, doesn’t mean you will have had the same experience.  I hope that your comments will be able to help others in the future as they are trying to navigate life at Lajes.

Happy Dining!

Lava Preta was delicious! In addition to their pizzas, they have great seafood. I had the mixed skewer with fish and shrimp. De-lic-0us! Thanks for the recommendation.

So glad you enjoyed it. My sister loved the octopus salad there and one day I will order crepes for dessert!

Lava Preta is so good! Their Macaroni Mafiosi is fabulous and their pizza too. We go almost every other week, we live here in Biscoitos 😉
