Six

March 10, 2011

Name: Six

Location: Sao Bartolomeu

Directions: Take the Via rapida towards Angra from the base, make at right at the circle as if you were heading to Modelo, continue as if you were driving to the blue hotel.  At the circle before reaching the blue hotel take a right heading in the direction of Sao Carlos.  Shortly after you will reach another circle and you want to continue straight, but keep in mind this is a slight right (as opposed to dead on center) because just to the left of this is also a road with a big school building and that is not the right way to head.  Once you have headed up the road travel about 5 miles and on the left you will see a sign for Six at a driveway.  Turn and head down here and you will see a parking lot.  The restaurant is lit with blue lights.  Can also be loacted coming from the other direction if you are already in Sao Bartolomeu, need to turn heading back into the island center at the circle just between Cinco Riberias and Sao Bartolomeu.

Hours: Monday-Thursday 6:30-10 PM; Friday and Saturday 6:30-11 PM; Closed Sunday; Reservations recommended, especially if larger group

Phone Number: 967 062 504

Cuisine:  Fusion

English Speaking Staff: Yes

English Menu: Yes however specials list only in Portuguese

Brought to the table: Bread, Cinnamon Raisin Bread, Butter, Olives

This is probably the most unique or different restaurant on the island, offering a variety of Asian inspired dishes.  The menu offers a good selection of choices with a variety of flavors.  Make sure to book a reservation of go early because they do get busy and it can slow down the food service.  Expect to spend some time waiting for you meal as it is made fresh to order.  Consider getting a nice bottle of wine and an appetizer or two for your party to share.

It is true that they serve sushi, but you do need to call in advance.  It is actually recommended that you try the restaurant out first and get to know the owner before requesting sushi as they need a day to prepare in advance, and sadly they have been “stood up” on some of these special orders.  It is not unreasonable to think that some sushi goers may just not have found the restaurant and gave up.  Either way, out of respect for the owner and her staff, it is best to become acquainted with the restaurant first, and then on a return visit place an order a day in advance if you wish to have sushi.  Sushi or not, there is still something for everyone on the menu.

To clarify the directions: I tried following them exactly, but there are several forks in the road that were not in the directions, so I had to turn around a few times.

So do like Melinda said, go like you’re going to the blue hotel, but after you pass the 2 gas stations on either side of the road, there is a roundabout right after them- make a right at that roundabout. At the next roundabout, take the first exit to the right. Stay on that road and it will fork off 2 times- stay to the right at both forks. You will cross over some speed bumps- SLOW DOWN they will get you! after that, you will come to a fork where if you stay to the left/straight you will pass a Guarita store- it’s huge and “Guarita” sign is lit up at night. Pass that store….then keep going til you pass a huge cathedral on the left (there are 2 cafe’s across the street from it)- then, SLOW DOWN because the VERY next left is the driveway. The sign for Six is a little ways down that road, it’s not overly obvious from the road unless you know what to look for. Once you have turned on the road and go down a little ways, THEN you will see the blue neon lights and the better lit “Six” sign that is in the picture of this posting.

The owner speaks perfect English and is not angry to help you if you get lost. I had to call her 3 times! 🙂 Good luck and enjoy the amazingness that is “Six” 🙂

Thanks! It is definitely a tricky one to locate. The owner is really helpful if you get lost, so bring the phone number. We had to call her too and she helped navigate us with no problems!
