Pao Quente

January 9, 2011

Name: Pao Quente

Location: Angra do Heroismo

Directions: From the main square keep heading straight through Angra, up the hill.  It is small, not well labelled, but on the right, just before you get to the street that leads to the top side of the Angra market.  It’s on the same main street as O Leme and 1516, just in the other direction.

Hours: open daily most of the day

Cuisine: Cafe, Traditional Portuguese, Buffet, Sweets, Bread

English Speaking Staff: Yes

English Menu: No

Great place for a quick meal served by a friendly staff.  It’s a traditional cafe with snack foods and sandwiches, but also has a hot buffet with many options.  Extensive dessert selection.  Grab a coffee here while wandering around in Angra.  The seating area is larger than you would expect for a small cafe, just head to the back, past the buffet warmers.  They have televisions too so expect it to be busy when there is a sporting event in progress.

This location since has placed an English menu along the wall, and I must say the lack of “oh my gosh this food is crazy good” on this page is misleading. The food served here is just wonderful, and you can always ask for things to be adjusted if you are picky, they never hesitate to serve the customer. The summer months can be a bit uncomfortable there due to the doors always being open, but the food, drinks, and deserts make it more than worth it, regardless the time of year!
