A Porta

July 15, 2010

Name: A Porta

Location: Lajes/Praia, Directly across from the base front gate

Cuisine: Pizzeria

English Speaking Staff: No

English Menu: Yes

Brought to the table: bread, butter, spreadable cheese

Although limited communication in English, knowing some basic Portuguese will go a long way here.  The staff is friendly despite the language barrier.  This restaurant advertises as a pizzeria, but they also offer a variety of Portuguese options.   Great variety in the pizzas, but be careful as sometimes they are oily.  If you are looking for a pizza lunch, this is the place to go.  Also good for dinner.  Outdoor seating available weather permitting.

At this time pizza is hit or miss…mostly miss. One visit the server said after 4 pm pizza available, the next trip there was no pizza even after 4 pm. Likely making pizza now on limited schedule, possibly after 4 pm on weekends.

Under new ownership, love that they painted it a bright and cheery orange color. Apparently a Brazilian Steakhouse. More info to come.

This place no longer offers either pizza OR the Brizilian cuisine- it’s sad as we were excited to have another Brazilian option. We went about 2 months ago and they had Portuguese food only (the usual steaks and fish). We asked about both the pizza and Brazilian and they said the chefs for both options were gone.

Wow, seems like that place is always changing. Thanks so much for posting an update.

Now it is Praia Rock Cafe and has typical American fast food, but live music on the weekends and is VERY successful.
